A trip in the world of catering
An incentive that can help the catering sector resume their activities and that goes beyond the measures taken so far in the form of compensations established by the previous decrees.
This incentive for both self-employed and employed professional chefs, even when they don’t possess the specific 5.2.2.1.0 Ateco (or their NACE, NAICS, and ISIC equivalent), will be provided in the form of tax credit, and its aim is to support the development of entrepreneurial business through a tax reduction proportioned to the specific purchases of the activity.
HOW IT WORKS
The tax credit is intended up to 40% for the purchase of goods that are strictly functional to the business. The maximum amount of the tax credit is 6.000 euro for each applicant, for a total budget allocated by the Government of a million euro per year from 2021 to 2023.
The eligible expenditures in order to obtain the tax credit are the ones concerning:
- the purchase of high energy efficiency class machines for storage, processing, transformation and cooking of food
- products and professional tools and equipment for the food service;
- professional training courses

HOW AND WHEN TO APPLY
In order to take advantage of the tax credit for your business, the costs should be incurred from January 1st to June 30th 2021.
Unfortunately, the terms of application haven’t been published yet. Similarly to other bonuses provided by law 178/2020, the implementing decrees that would make these measures effective are missing. The chef bonus is therefore to be considered “frozen” while waiting for the MiSE decree.
